Life Lessons for Mastering the Law of Attraction: 7 Essential Ingredients for Living a Prosperous Life

“Thanksgiving Time Again”
by Eva Gregory

As the news media talks of the war effort, a sagging economy, and Enron, too few speak of the blessings they enjoy.

Some are left to wonder -- is there anything left to be thankful for?

I say the answer is a resounding YES!

Just consider...

If you are reading this, you are better off than 2 billion citizens of planet earth. Yes, that's a “b“ you see there. With the skill of reading alone, men and women have learned, educated, created, inspired, and entertained their fellow man for centuries. Without reading there is no learning, no progress.

Unless a friend printed a copy of this for you, you are reading it on a computer connected to the Internet. Many countries will forever deny their citizens the ability to do a task as simple as signing on and reading email simply for fear that truth will set them free.

The Internet, as a vehicle for so many to have the hope of a brighter future, is itself cause for great thanksgiving.

We hear it so often that it seems trite. Yet the fact remains that in no other time in the history of the world has it been easier to open your own business and change your circumstances.

Drowned out in all the hype we see online is the fact that for many the Internet is the only way out. A programmer in Romania, recently featured on 60 Minutes, has found his way out (not of Romania, but out of poverty) by selling his services over the Internet. The income he earns puts him in the top tier of income earners in a country where the average annual income is less than $1000 U.S. and makes possible such “luxuries“ as proper medical care.

Although Thanksgiving is an American holiday, one can guess that it's Thanksgiving every day in his house.

If you happen to live in America, you have a government that guarantees you life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. You are guaranteed free speech. You are guaranteed the right to assemble and to protest peacefully. Students in Tian'anmen Square gave their very lives on June 4th, 1989 in an attempt to bring to China a right that we in America have enjoyed for hundreds of years.

For these things we should be grateful indeed, because they mean that we determine our own purpose in life and have not only a voice but also a measure of control over our own destiny.

Our world encourages “faster, better, stronger“ and always has. That is, in no small measure, how we got here. While progress is good, we must not let the upward call of business and technology cause us to forget that we have so much more than we think. We must not let the hype of the Internet steal our sense of well being.

Some 'gurus' feel it is their job to make us feel unsatisfied with our current circumstances. Let them do their job; yet never forget to be grateful for what you have now. Gratitude well practiced today will lead to a brighter tomorrow much faster than anything else known to mankind.

If you want to make today YOUR Thanksgiving day, consider these questions.

Are you free today? Does someone love you today? Do you have food for your next meal, safe water to drink today? Make a list (even check it twice) and you will soon discover that you are indeed blessed. We harbor the illusion that we can change tomorrow. In so doing we sometimes forget the joys of today.

Now more than ever we must pause to count our blessings. Count yours today and every day and you will find that you are rich indeed.
